What Customers Say About Linksys Range Plus Wireless USB Compact Adapter:

I have been using this with XP Pro SP3 on my Thinkpad T60p with no problems. I have been using this adapter since Feb. I recently purchased a second adapter for my home desktop running XP Pro 64 with no problems (yet). I found that my built-in wireless adapter became unreliable after SP3 and this adapter has solved all of my problems. 2009 in conjunction with a Linksys WRT110 RangePlus wireless router and have been very pleased with the performance. One reviewer indicated problems with using this under Windows XP SP3.

Another company that doesn't really care about their customers - imagine that. Almost everyone who has XP has SP3. While the phone support was somewhat helpful and expedient, the company's customer satisfaction standards are pretty low. New Windows XP installations are SP3 at this point unless you specifically get SP2 (Which most people won't) so there is really no point in installing this adapter with Windows XP, unless you can uninstall XP3 as an update or install Windows XP SP2 and manually not install SP3.

The big problem with this adapter, is that if you use windows XP (which many people still do) and you have Service Pack 3 (which 99% of XP users do) it will work for a few weeks and then not work anymore, as I experienced and was later told by Linksys support. Linksys should: ----- A) stop selling these adapters to Windows XP users ----- B) List the problem with XP SP3 on the package under compatibility ----- C) Issue a recall for all XP SP3 users and either replace the adapter with one that works with this application or fix current adapter. They refused to take this product back and send me the right adapter even though they were 100% at fault. The adapter works fine with Windows Vista, XP - SP1 or SP2 -just not SP3.

I was told by Linksys support to purchase Linksys Wusb54gsc, since it was made compatible with XP SP3. To find your systems compatibility (Operating system, version or year, service pack #, memory in ram and processor version and speed) click start, control panel and system. The specifications on the product packaging do not specify this issue and after calling Linksys 4 or 5 times perhaps you will get a representative who knows enough to inform you of the issue. When an XP user installs updates SP3 will eventually be installed unless they manually install updates and refuse to install it.

Very annoying. I fault Microsoft for this more than Linksys, however, or perhaps my ISP. I've used the link for some time now, and it makes a very quick clear connection to my other computer, where the router is hooked up, most of the time. The connection is interrupted, however, when the other computer has received downloads from Microsoft, requiring me to turn the router on and off to re-establish the link.

when you think you have a problem, just say NO.and read the instructions. If you are having difficulty with your linksys router or adapter, you must be a Republican.

The way I understand the advertisement this combo should improve my range and speed; but it didn't. The only difference was one router was on channel 10 and the other on 11. I was not pleased with the less than good performance of the WRT54G and WUSB54GSC operating between my house and shop (about 50 feet).

Both routers were sitting on a shelf five feet off the floor and within 4 feet of one another. I could not detect a dime's worth of difference in performance. The two computers were in my shop about fifty feet away, with compact adapters within five feet of each other.

This isn't bad, but it isn't any better than an earlier version of this same Linksys combo. I took it one step further and operated both systems together.

So I bought the WUSB100 and WRT110 (range plus Linksys router). It worked OK but was not any better than the old setup.
